EDUC 762 Assessment in E-Learning

Learning Objective #1 -- Students will display their understanding of the historical material via a quiz developed in Survey Monkey based on a rubric with 80% accuracy.

  • Student Activity 1 -- Students will complete assigned readings to establish a baseline level of historical understanding.  Activities 2 - 4 will build upon this foundation.
  • Assessment Tool -- Students will complete a quiz and short essay in Survey Monkey to demonstrate their level of the mastery of the module readings.

The benefit of using Survey Monkey for this activity is two-fold: (1) it provides the instructor with an understanding of the range of student skills in history, test taking and essay writing , and technical skills; and (2) the activity of taking the survey via Survey Monkey can serve as an indicator of technical comfort.

Learning Objective #2 -- Students will display their understanding of the differences between Roman Rule and Carolingian Rule by using Word Press to establish a blog.  They will post their short essays on the site based on a rubric with 80% accuracy.

  • Student Activity 2 -- Students will choose 4 differences between the Roman Empire and Carolingian Rule and write short essays using APA format on each differences explaining their choice.  With this activity, we begin the process of encouraging the student to think critically.  Their choice and defense of the differences begin to reflect their thinking on the foundational historical information established in Activity 1.
  • Assessment Tool -- Students will establish a blog in Word Press and post their essays.

The benefit of using a blog in this activity shows the instructor the student's technical ability in establishing a blog.  A drawback of using a blog for this type of assignment is that student's who are not fairly confident in their writing skills may they are exposing themselves to peer critique.  This drawback can be modified by instructions on how to provide positive feedback in a peer review situation.
