EDUC 762 Assessment in E-Learning

EDUC 762 Assessment in E-Learning -- Europe in the Early Middle Ages Module

Thank-you for coming to my page.  My final project involved developing four learning objectives and associated assessment tools for students of a freshman college-level Western Civilization class.  What is contained on this site are components of a module that explores the important aspects of what we now commonly refer to as Europe in the Early Middles Ages (500-900 C.E).

This class is a general requirement for graduation and as such, the audience has a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels and interests.  The learning objectives developed for this attempt to move the class from rote memorization to a higher level of comprehension and engagement as it relates to the class material.

The content on this site includes:

  • Module Concept Map-- the map lays out the relationship among the learning objectives, class activities and the assessment tools employed to "grade" the activity.
  •  Pre-course survey--due to the large variety in the student audience for this class, a pre-sources survey has been developed to assess the student's experience with past history classes, their comfort in testing taking and essay writing as well as their comfort with using technology in an on-line class situation.
  • Four learning objectives related to the Early Middle Ages (click the Learning Objective tabs above.)
  • Using Bloom's Taxonomy to determine how the learning objectives and activities contribute to higher learning in the course.
  • Understanding and avoiding plagiarism  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism.  Students will be required to review this link on plagiarism.  I would also include an attachment of any institutional agreement that a student is required to read, sign and return back to this instructor at the start of the class to ensure the student is aware of the definition of plagiarism and how it is enforced in the class.
